Gold worth 3 crore seized near Moreh

IMPHAL: Troops of 12 Assam Rifles seized gold bars worth around Rs 3 crore at a local market near the border town of Moreh, officials said on Wednesday.Personnel of the paramilitary force at their Khudengthabi checkpost located along the Imphal-Moreh section of NH-2, on Tuesday afternoon, spotted a van moving towards Imphal from the border town in a suspicious manner. When checked, many gold bars weighing around 9.633 kg were found at the back of the vehicle driven by Md Sajit Khan (38) from the Moreh area, official sources said. Later, the AR personnel handed the individual along with the seized gold bars over to the Customs Preventive Force authorities at Moreh. Superintendent of customs WHY Luwang said they would take up necessary action against the individual. The monetary value of the seized gold in the market is estimated at Rs 2.81 crore, Luwang said.
